The University of Southern California (USC), a private research university with a graduation rate of 91%, is holding its largest hackathon event (HackSC) from 31 January to 2 February. The weekend hackathon will see more than 1,000 students from various parts of the country gather in Los Angeles to compete for the top prize across four verticals: mental health, equity, civil rights, and sustainability.

The hackers will spend 36 straight hours creating innovative products and will be critiqued on the social impact of the products they create. Sitting on the judges’ panel is Education Ecosystem (LEDU) founder and CEO Michael Juergen Garbade, who together with Reddit co-founder and CEO Steve Huffman and many more, will have a hard time picking out the winners. The winners are expected to push the boundaries of innovation, technology, and collaboration.
LEDU, Accenture, Google Cloud, and at least 10 other companies are sponsoring the hackathon event, which will attract more than 800 hackers, visionaries, and designers. The attendees will have an opportunity to listen to speakers, build lifetime relationships, and develop tools & programs. The 2020 hackathon will build on the successful hosting of the 2019 edition.
